For the last twenty years or more, working life has been pretty predictable. Busy? Sure. But predictable all the same.
We had a good idea where we were heading. We just needed to get our heads down and make it happen.
Because of that, we’re not well trained for uncertainty.
And it’s one thing to say we’ll stand true when we’re being asked to move faster, but it’s hard for humans to keep steady when there’s an air of urgency everywhere we turn.
The heat of the moment creates the conditions to do things we wouldn’t choose when the view is clearer.
You can feel it, even if you haven’t named it
You’re already living it.
The old maps aren’t holding up so well.
A crystal ball would be really handy.
The arguments about what’s right for humans might not be as easy to gain agreement on as they were.
You’re holding onto your values, but sometimes it's really tricky.
And you’re not always comfortable with where we might be heading.
This is not the time to fade or compromise. But it’s also not the time to fight. We need new strategies.
Don’t go it alone
It’s never easy to swim against the tide.
But it’s definitely easier with hands on your back.
This is your space to share what’s really happening and why you can’t change some things, even though you really want to.
It’s your place for healthy provocation, new perspectives and new ideas in a room with other leaders navigating the same terrain and refusing to lose their humanity in the process.
It’s the place where radical hope, practical strategy, wise discernment and sometimes, a good dose of humour, come together.
